Scientific Description:
One of the members of mitogen-activated protein kinases is called p44 MAP Kinase (Erk1). It participates in cell growth and differentiation. [1,2] By phosphorylating the transcription factors (e., ELK-1), p44 MAP kinase (Erk1) regulates meiosis as well as mitosis of the cell. In the case of human MAP kinase, Erk1 activates Elk-1 through phosphorylation of threonine 202 and tyrosine 204. It is also known that Erk1 autophosphorylates tyrosine. [3]
